Here come the 2012 Fishing Review Part 2. Well, would like to deliver my
feeling with my lousy English. After a long time of hard work, me and
colleagues managed to go for a 2 days 1 night fishing trip to Pulau Lakei.
On the 8 September 2012(Saturday) evening, after get ready all the
things we gather at Bako Jetty, the boatman which is also my staff been
waiting for us there. Getting all the things up to the boat, five of us
heading to our first fishing spot.
We stop at the first location to try our luck. I used double small hooks to try my luck today and managed to get some small fish. Due to water tide, not much action at this spot, one of my colleague managed to get a Mangrove Jack about 1kg and then we decided to try our luck at second place. At the second spot, light been turn on since the day is dark and we were looking for some fresh squid for bait. Not much squid appeared yet they swim in deep and run away when we make some movement. A big puffy fish about 2kg landed by another colleague. At first we thought it was a Snapper, as it give a good fight to my colleague's fishing rod. Well, not much fish took the bait at the second spot, as a result we moved to the third spot for not wasting our time.
To increase the strike rate, we really took our initiative to search for live bait. We noticed quite a lot of squids surrounding the bot, and i managed to hook up one using fresh fish meat. Beside squid, we meet with lots of bait fish, Bilang Mata and by using seven eyes we managed to get lots of bullets. Probably my luck has come, something try to steal my bait, i hitched my rod gently and i experienced some fight back which gave me the same feeling of fishing fresh water prawn. While i still wondering what have been hooked up, the answer appeared to be a Lobster. Haha, not bad, my second experience getting Lobster scaled about half kg.
Looking at the time, is about 12am, we make our move to the next spot in dark, which is in front of Pulau Lakei and i noticed than 10 boats surrounding this area. My colleague managed to get two live squid here and use them as bait, where as i decided to use the Bilang Mata's head as bait because the shining eyes of Bilang Mata caught my interest. Only me remain awake having my eyes on my fishing rod, where as others has start to ZZzzzZZzz...
My position is front of the boat, allowing me to lie down to get some rest, before i fall in sleep, i saw some action on my Abu Garcia Conolon Pe1-3 rod which i use the Bilang Mata's head as bait just now. Without wasting time, quickly grab the rod and give it a hitch, and ALL RIGHT!!! STRIKE!!! I can feel the power of the fish swim to the to the back of the boat, i have to shout to my colleagues so that they wake up and give way for me to the back. I was really shocked and amazed by the power and speed that pulling my rod and 30lbs braided line keep going out from my Abu Garcia Sixstar drum, with the attracting clip sound that really wake up all my colleagues. We all started to guess what fish took my bait, i have really no idea. My heart beat is fast enough and i told myself to claim down. In my heart, i pray to God to bless me with the strength and wisdom to land this fish, as i only use 40lbs mono line as leader and the hook only as big as 10cent(Berkley Chinu no.7). I don't dare to tighten the brake too much and make sure the brake tension won't break the tiny hook in the same time. Fighting while praying to God really claim me down, slowly i manage to reel in some lines but the fella give me few powerful sprint which make me feel high enough!
After few rounds of powerful sprints given by the fella, it start to slow down and i managed to reel in the lines slowly and steadily. When the fella been pulled near to surface of water, it sprint again. Finally i can feel that the fish is totally out of energy, and i saw a silver gold shadow not far away at the water surface. Judging from that distance, i estimate the fish scale at 3-4kg. My colleague try to use the net to land the fish but the net is too small to take it up. Using my left hand pulling the rod so the fish near to the boat, is was a beautiful King Threadfin(Mancung/Kurau in malay). By using my right hand i grabbed the Threadfin's lips and pull it up into the boat. OH MY GOD!!! It's bigger that i thought!!! My legs and hands were shaking because too excited! It is 2.45am when i look at the time, i took a can of beer to celebrate in the same time to feel warm. HAHA! I was too happy until i look at the fish for more than half and hour while my colleagues start to try their luck again! I try to put the Threadfin into my Coleman ice box but it wasn't big enough to fill the Threadfin. HAHAHA...
6.00am in the morning, we decided to go back to jetty as it going to be heavy rain. Once we reached jetty, some of the villages aiming their eyes at my Ice box with unbelievable face. I was so happy that after few fishing trip at Kuching finally i managed to get a big fella, which i really want to thank to my colleagues which make this fishing trip successful. Praise to God that with his blessing we enjoy a wonder fishing trip and we hope we can have fun again! Hahaha... After having a good sleep, i drive back to hometown together with the big fella and weight it. It may not be so big compared to the largest size of the species but 9kg for my personal record until now really make me happy enough. Haha! Thank God again for giving me the nice experience from this fella and hope to have others excitement again!
Lobster that trying to steal my bait, better luck next time ya! Haha...
So excited after landed this 9kg King Threadfin,
I was so lucky that i able to landed this fish!
